Meaning of Oppression

The common law misdemeanor committed by a public officer who, under color of his office , Wrongfully inflicts upon any person any bodily harm , imprisonment or other injury . Denotes an excessive use of authority . Also, unconscionable bargain , as between a creditor and a debtor wherein the creditor by reason of his superior position imposes such unconscionable obligations on the debtor that the courts will refuse to enforce the same. See Butler v Duncan, 47 Mich. 94, 10 N.W. 123.

Oppression Alternative Definition

The act of an officer in inflicting upon any person, with improper motive, any bodily harm, imprisonment, or other injury, not constituting extortion. Steph. Dig. art. 119; 4 Q. B. 475.
