Meaning of Mental Disease

An abnormal condition of the mind which substantially affects mental or emotional processes and substantially impairs behavior controls. See King v U.S., 372 F.2d383,125 U.S. App. D. C. 318. As a criminal defense , the test is whether at the time of defendant ‘s conduct , as a result of mental disease or defect he lacks substantial capacity either to appreciate wrongfulness of his conduct or to conform his conduct to requirements of law. See U.S. v Freeman, (C.A.N.Y.)357 F.2d 606.
