In corporate law, the term has a definite established meaning as denoting a person who sets in motion the machinery by which a company is created and brings together investors to contribute capital of the corporation . To be a promoter within the means of securities and exchange commission Rules, one must either be active in the business of the corporation or actively engaged in the formation of the corporation.
