Meaning of Indignity

The term is generally to be found in statutes relating to divorce , as a ground for granting divorce to the aggrieved party who had been subject to indignities by the other spouse . In this context, it means unmerited reproach, habitual contumely, studied neglect , intentional incivility, manifest disdain, abusive language, malignant ridicule, abuse and other plain manifestations of settled hate and estrangement.
