Meaning of Impleader

The procedure in civil actions whereby the primary liability of the original defendant for the claim made by the plaintiff and the alleged liability over of third parties are sought to be settled in the same action by bringing the third parties into the action. See federal Rule of civil procedure 14, Appendix 2.
