Meaning of Label
A written description of a manufactured item as to its ownership, character , quality or content. See U.S. v Kordel, (C.A.7) 164 -.2d 913. The purpose of a label is to indicate the article contained in the bottle, package or nox to which it is affixed and not to distinguish it from articles of the same general nature manufactured or sold by others, thus securing to the producer the benefit of any increased sale by reason of any peculiar excellence he may have given to same as a trade mark does. See Higgins v Keuffel, 140 U.S. 731, 11 S.Ct. 731, 35 LEd. 470.
Label Alternative Definition
A narrow slip of paper or parchment affixed to a deed or writing, hanging at or out of the same. This name is also given to an appending seal. See 2 Fed. 217. It is also a mark, or design, or statement placed on goods to indicate their origin or contents.
