Meaning of Inhibition
In ecclesiastical law , an order of disqualification for a specified time prohibiting a member of the clergy from functioning in his office . Also, a writ to prohibit a judge from functioning on a matter.
Inhibition Alternative Definition
In Civil Law. A prohibition which the law makes or a judge ordains to an individual. Halifax, Anal. p. 126. In English Law. “rhe name of a writ which forbids a judge from further proceeding in a cause depending before him. It is in the nature of a prohibition. Termes de la Ley; Fitzh. Nat. Brev. 39. In Scotch Law. A personal prohibition which passes by letters under the signet, prohibiting the party inhibited to contract any debt or do any act by which any part of the heritable property may be aliened or carried off, in prejudice of the creditor inhibiting. Ersk. Prac. bk. 2, tit. 2, § 2. See “Diligence.”

late 14c., “formal prohibition; interdiction of legal proceedings by authority;” also, the document setting forth such a prohibition, from Old French inibicion and directly from Latin inhibitionem (nominative inhibitio) “a restraining,” from past participle stem of inhibere “to hold in, hold back, keep back,” from in- “in, on” (see in- (2)) + habere “to hold” (see habit; this term is also a noun.). Psychological sense of “involuntary check on an expression of an impulse” is from 1876.
