Meaning of Conjecture
An inference from defective or presumptive evidence . A formation of an opinion or judgment on insufficient evidence. An explanation consistent with but not deducible as a reasonable inference from known facts or conditions, and two or more possible explanations as to how an event happened and what produced it may remain conjecture if the evidence is without selective application to any. See Kaminski v Grand Trunk Western R. Co., 79 N. W. 2d 899, 347 Mich. 417.
Conjecture Alternative Definition
A slight degree of credence, arising from evidence too weak or too remote to cause belief. 1 Mascardus de Prob. quaest. 14, note 14. An idea or notion founded on a probability, without any demonstration of its truth.
