Meaning of Compete, Competition

To contend with another in rivalry, for the same object or thing for which that other is, striving. Competition means the contention of two or more persons for the same object or for superiority; rivalry. It is the striving for something that is sought by another at the same time. In matters of trade and commerce denotes the struggle between rivals for the same trade at the same time. See Uptown Food store Inc. v Ginsberg, 123 N. W.2d 59, 255 Iowa 462, 1 A.L.R.3d 765. In context of restrictive covenants between employer and employee must be construed in light of policies underlying imposition of such restrictions. See Electronic Data Systems Corp. vKinder, (C.A.5)497F.2d222.
