What does Barge mean in American Law?
The definition of Barge in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:
Once used to describe a ship-of-state, especially for monarchs as in (“The barge she sat on, like a burnished throne, burned on the waters”), but now descriptive of either a flat-bottomed river vessel used for the transport of heavy cargoes, usually towed rather than self-powered, or a lighter.
