Meaning of Contiguity

Strictly in actual contact; close proximity . In international law a claim to neighboring territory based on proximity and effective occupation . In the context of legislation authorizing a municipality to annex territory contiguous thereto, the term means more than common boundaries, it includes a community of interest flowing from a permissible justification for natural and reasonable annexation. See Big Sioux Tp. v Streeter, (S. D.) 272 N. W.2d 924.
