Meaning of Cashier

The business officer of a bank but only in the sense of one who transacts and not one who regulates or controls the affairs. As has been quaintly said he is the hands of the bank while the directors are the mind. See Gray v Farmers national Bank, 32 A. 518.

Cashier Alternative Definition

An officer of a moneyed Institution, or of a private person or firm, who is entitled by his office to take care of the cash or money of such institution, persons, or firm. In Military Law. To deprive a military officer of his office. See Articles of Of a Bank. An executive ofBcer, by whom its debts are received and paid, and its securities taken and transferred, whose ordinary duties are to keep all the funds of the bank, its notes, bills and other choses in action, to be used from time to time for the ordinary and extraordinary exigencies of the bank, and usually receiving directly, or through the subordinate officers of the bank, all the money and notes of the bank, delivering up all discounted notes and other securities when they have been paid, drawing checks to withdraw the funds of the band when they have been deposited, and, as the executive officer of the bank, transacting most of its business. 22 111. App. 251.
