Meaning of SS
An abbreviation used in that part of a record, pleading, or affidavit, called the statement of the venue, or county in which it is made, as “City and County of New York, SS.” Commonly translated or read, “to wit,” and supposed to be a contraction of scilicet. It has been otherwise explained to be a mark used to denote a separate section or paragraph. 1 Chit. PI. (6th Am. Ed.) 305, note (t).
