Traditional meaning of senatus consultum in English (with some legal use of this latin concept in England and the United States in the XIX Century) [1]: (in Latin) A decree of the senate; one of the chief sources of Roman law; see 1st Book (“The Rights of Persons”), Blackstone’s Commentaries on the Laws of England 80, 86. Senatus decreta: private acts of the senate as distinguished from public laws; see 1st Book (“The Rights of Persons”), Blackstone’s Commentaries on the Laws of England 86.
