One who takes charge of and performs function of trial lawyer in a criminal case for the people. People v Pohl, 197 N.E.ld 759, 47 Ul. App.2d 232. In some jurisdictions, he is called the district attorney , or county attorney , or States Attorney, or public prosecutor . The appointment and the function of a Prosecuting Attorney are controlled either by the state constitution or by Statutes.
