International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture in Global Commerce Policy
In this regard, international treaty on plant genetic resources for food and agriculture is: adopted by the Food and Agricultural Organization on 3 November 2001. The objectives of the Treaty are the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of their use, in harmony with the Convention on Biological Diversity, for sustainable agriculture and food security. The Treaty recognizes farmers ™ rights, establishes a multilateral system of access and benefit-sharing for plant genetic resources listed in Annex I to the Treaty, and it enjoins the parties to implement the rolling Global Plan for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.
