The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants offers the following definition of Independence Standard Board (ISB) in a way that is easy for anybody to understand: This is the private sector standard-setting body governing the independence of AUDITORs from their public company clients. It came about from discussions between the AICPA, other accounting representatives and the SEC.
