De Facto GATT Membership
De facto GATT membership in Global Commerce Policy
In this regard, de facto gatt membership is: former colonies used to be able, upon independence, to participate in the GATT as de facto members if they agreed to administer their trade regimes in accordance with the GATT rules. This could only be done if the parent countries had been GATT members. De facto membership is not possible in the WTO.[1]
