The definition of Bound in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:

Tied up, as with rope, but in legal contexts obligated, as in “You signed the contract and you”re bound by it.” Also, in transportation, an indication of destination, as in “The S.S. Peerless, bound for Bombay.” Also, a somewhat archaic synonym for boundary. See, e.g., metes and bounds.
