The definition of Block in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:

Properly, an area within a city or town bounded by (usually) four streets. But the term is often used to refer to one of the streets and the houses fronting on it, as in “Sure I know Joey; he lives on my block.”
