Artificial body in the Dictionary of Law consisting of Judicial Definitions and Explanations of Words, Phrases and Maxims

A number of individuals considered collectively, usually organized for a common purpose: as, a legislative body. An artificial body or that devised by human laws. 1 Bl. Com. 467. An artificial body can do only what is authorized by its charter or by law; a natural person or body, whatever is not forbidden by law.Paul v. Virginia, 8 Wall. 177 (1868).
