Meaning of Receipt
A written acknowledgment that a certain sum of money or goods stated thereon has been received. Also, in accounting practice, the term denotes moneys that are received as opposed to the expenditures. As a matter of economic concept, it defers from income since a receipt includes capital and income does not. Hamilton Nat. Bank v district of Columbia, 156 F.2d 843, 81 U.S. App. D.C.200. Also the act of receiving; the fact of receiving or being received; that which is received. state v Texas Co., 116 S.W.2d 583, 173 Tenn. 154.
