Meaning of Consignment
The sending of goods to another for sale or purchase . A consignment of goods for sale is a bailment and implies no obligation on the part of the consignee to purchase the goods. Also, the phrase denotes the goods themselves so sent.
Consignment Alternative Definition
The goods or property sent by means of a common carrier by one or more persons, called the consignors, in one place, to one or more persons, called the consignees, who are in another. The goods sent by one person to another, to be sold or disposed of by the latter for and on account of the former. The act of consigning goods. In French Law. A deposit which the debtor’ makes of the thing that he owes into the hands of a third piarson, and under the authority of a court of justice. 1 Poth. Obi. 376.
International Trade Meaning and Definition of Consignment
Delivery of merchandise from an exporter (consignor) to an agent (consignee) under agreement that the agent sell the merchandise for the account of the exporter.
