One or more syllables which, when united, convey an idea; a single part of speech. Words will be construed according to their strict and primary acceptation, unless from the context of the writing, and the intention of the parties collected from it, they appear to have been used in a different, sense, or unless in their strict sense they are incapable of being carried into effect. 109 111. 416.
