Waffle Group

Definition of Waffle Group

The Canada social science dictionary [1] provides the following meaning of Waffle Group: Established within the New Democratic Party in 1969, this group led by Mel Watkins and James Laxer attempted to move the NDP further to the left by espousing clearly socialist and nationalist ideals. The leadership of the party believed that these ideas were unappealing to the public and would challenge the political legitimacy and electability of the NDP.
