Trade deviation in Global Commerce Policy

In this regard, trade deviation is: a term sometimes used to describe a situation arising from the fact that a country may be a member of two free-trade areas. Unless there are appropriate rules of origin, goods originating in one of these free-trade areas may in this way circulate freely to the other free-trade area once they have entered the customs territory of the first country. This concept illustrates the kind of issues that arise once the conclusion of regional trade agreements becomes a country’s main trade policy objective. See also hub and spokes.[1]
