Meaning of Special proceedings
A phrase used in the codes of procedure to denote all proceedings other than actions; generally, any proceeding in a court which was not under the common law and equity practice either an action at law or a suit in chancery is a special proceeding. 117 Cal. 387; Ency. of PI. & Pr. 112.
