SAPTA in Global Commerce Policy
In this regard, sapta is: SAARC Preferential Trading Arrangement, launched as a first step towards a regional free-trade area in April 1993 with a program of tariff reductions on specified goods and commodities. Para-tariffs, non-tariff measures and direct trade measures may also be dealt with. The target date for regional free trade is 2005. SAPTA consists of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka which make up the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). The entries on trade policy are here.
