Polluter-Pays Principle in Global Commerce Policy
In this regard, polluter-pays principle is: a principle embodied in the OECD Guiding Principles Concerning Environmental Policies. The entries on trade policy are here. It states that the polluter should bear the expenses of carrying out measures decided by public authorities to reduce pollution and to reach a better allocation of resources. The cost of these measures should be reflected in the cost of goods and services which cause pollution in production and/or consumption. Such measures should not be accompanied by subsidies that would create significant distortions in international trade and investment. See also trade and environment.[1]
