Meaning of Manager

A person appointed or elected to manage the affairs of another. A term applied to those officers of a corporation who are authorized to manage its affairs. 1 Bouv. Inst, note 190 ; 17 Mass. 29. In England and Canada, the chief executive officer of a branch bank is called a “manager.” His duties are those of our presidents and cashiers combined. His signature is necessary to every contract binding on the bank, except entries in the passbooks of customers. He indorses bills, signs bills of exchange and drafts, and conducts the correspondence of the bank. He is under the control of the board of directors of the bank, and there is usually a local or branch board of directors, at which he acts as presiding officer. Sewell, Bank.
