Meaning of Imbecile

One who is neither a lunatic nor ar. idiot but who is destitute of strength, either of body or mind; one who is weak, feeble. I impotent, decrepit. Differs from idiocy ir. that an imbecile possesses some intellectual capacity , though inferior in degree to that possessed by the great mass of mankind, while an idiot is utterly destitute o: reason.
