The following is a definition of Hague Conference On Private International Law, produced by Tetley, in the context of admiralty law: An intergovernmental organization founded in 1893 to promote uniformity of private international law. The Conference has drafted over 30 conventions on diverse subjects of private international law, over 20 of which conventions are in force in different countries, including, among others, the Hague Conventions on International Sales of Goods (1955 and 1986), the Service of Documents Abroad (1965), the Taking of Evidence Abroad (1970) and Agency (1978).
