Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) Definition (in the Accounting Vocabulary)

The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants offers the following definition of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) in a way that is easy for anybody to understand: Standards set by the AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS (AICPA) which concern the AUDITOR’S professional qualities and judgment in the performance of his or her AUDIT and in the actual report.
