General Tariff

General Tariff

General tariff in Global Commerce Policy

In this regard, a definition of this issue is as follows: this term nowadays is often used instead of most- favoured-nation tariff in that it applies to the bulk of one’s trading partners. Before the emergence of general most-favoured-nation treatment with the entry into force of the GATT in 1948, the general tariff often referred to the tariff applied to countries not receiving preferences of one kind or another. The entries on trade policy are here. In some cases, countries still distinguish between a general tariff and a most-favoured-nation tariff, and the rates contained in the former are usually higher.
