GATT 1947 in Global Commerce Policy

In this regard, gatt 1947 is: General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1947. The old (pre- 1994) version of the GATT, adopted at the conclusion in 1947 of the Second Session of the Preparatory Committee of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Employment, and as subsequently rectified, amended or modified. The entries on trade policy are here. It was in force from 1 January 1948 until the conclusion of the Uruguay Round when it was replaced by the GATT 1994. The two basic texts are identical, but legally distinct, in that the GATT 1947 was an international treaty, whereas the GATT 1994 is only one of the components of the Marrakesh Treaty Establishing the World Trade Organization.[1]
