Exclusion in Voting Law

Definition of Exclusion in the context of the United States election law: Event which occurs when a potential voter cannot exercise his or her right to vote on election day because his or her name does not appear on the voter list. This can be due to several reasons: an oversight on the part of the voter, the result of his or her refusal to register or because of negligence on the part of the electoral authority which, for example, may have failed to inform citizens of the dates of the voter registration period. It can also be the result of a deliberate manoeuvre on the part of the electoral administration to exclude a certain category of voters.
