Definition of Electoral Cycle in the context of the United States election law: Refers to the different stages of the electoral process and can be represented as a visual planning and training tool designed to help development agencies, electoral assistance providers and electoral officials in partner countries to understand the cyclical nature of the various challenges faced in electoral processes. The tool is divided into three main periods: pre-electoral, electoral and post-electoral. The electoral cycle has no fixed starting or ending point, which is also true for the three periods and for the segments within the cycle. In theory, it may be said that one cycle ends when another begins.
