Meaning of Drop

In ElngUsh practice. When the members of a court are equally divided on the argument showing cause against a rule niei, no order is made, i. e., the rule is neither discharged nor made absolute, and the rule is said to “drop.” In practice, there being a right to appeal, it has been usual to make an order in one way, the junior judge withdrawing his judgment.
