English Legal System: Crown Privilege
In the context of the English law, A Dictionary of Law provides the following legal concept of Crown Privilege : The right of the Crown to withhold documentary evidence in any legal proceedings on the grounds that its disclosure would injure the public interest. It was expressly preserved by the Crown Proceedings Act 1947 (See Crown proceedings). In certain limited cases, however, the courts have demanded to inspect documents for which *privilege is claimed and rejected the claim as unwarranted.
