Definition of Cross-sectional Research

The Canada social science dictionary [1] provides the following meaning of Cross-sectional Research: Research which makes observations at only one period in time. For example, conducting a survey or opinion poll. It is analogous to taking one still picture of the population or group being investigated. Longitudinal research, on the other hand, makes more than one set of observations and can be compared to a simple moving picture.
