Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities (CRPD) in Voting Law

Definition of Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities (crpd) in the context of the United States election law: International human rights treaty of the United Nations (2006) intended to protect the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities. Parties to the Convention are required to promote, protect and ensure the full enjoyment of human rights by persons with disabilities and ensure that they enjoy full equality under the law. Article 29 stipulates: “The State parties shall ensure that persons with disabilities can effectively and fully participate in political and public life on an equal basis with others, directly or through freely chosen representatives, including the right and opportunity for persons with disabilities to vote and be elected.”
