Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property in Global Commerce Policy

In this regard, convention on the means of prohibiting and preventing the illicit import, export and transfer of ownership of cultural property is: a convention adopted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1970 in Nairobi. The parties designate the types of property, religious or secular, that are important for archaeology, prehistory, history, literature, art or science. They agree to oppose the illicit import, export or transfer of ownership of cultural property. Licit exports of cultural property are made under a system of certification.
