Notion of Containment

The meaning of Containment may be as follows: policy pursued by the US toward the Soviet Union c. 1947-1989, the aim of which was to deny Moscow opportunities to expand its political influence abroad, to draw a line and contain the Soviets within their borders, (also see Truman Doctrine )

Concept of Containment (Confinement)

In relation to securing dangerous material (in case of crisis or terrorism) a meaning of containment (confinement) may be outlined, in general regarding European law, as follows: Process by which possible release, discharge or spill of a toxic substance or the spread of an infectious agent during normal use or after an accident is prevented by appropriate action[1]
