Meaning of Commons

A group of people eating at a common table as in a college ; the provisions so furnished; allowance of food, rations, fare. A tract of land that is open and free for the purpose of the general enjoyment and amusement of members of the public . Part of the land belonging to the lord of the manor , which being uncultivated was t.r.e. the lord’s waste and served for public roads and for common of pasture to the lord and his tenants.
