English Legal System: Committal in Civil Proceedings
In the context of the English law, A Dictionary of Law provides the following legal concept of Committal in Civil Proceedings : A method of enforcing judgment by obtaining an order that a person be committed to prison. It is most commonly sought when the person has committed a *contempt of the court (e.g. by disobedience of an order of the court).
