The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants offers the following definition of Certified Management Accountant (CMA) in a way that is easy for anybody to understand: An accreditation conferred by the Institute of Management Accountants that indicates the designee has passed an examination and attained certain levels of education and experience in the practice of accounting in the private sector.
