Meaning of Bolting
In English practice. A term formerly used in the English inns of court, but more particularly at Gray’s Inn, signifying the private arguing of cases, as distinguished from mooting, which was a more formal and public mode of argument. Cowell; Tomlin; Holthouse. The deserting by one or more persons from the political party to which they belong, or the permanent withdrawal of a portion of the delegates in a political convention.
