Binding
Binding in Global Commerce Policy
In this regard, binding is: also called concession. The entries on trade policy are here. A a legal obligation not to raise tariffs on particular products above the specified rate agreed in WTO negotiations and incorporated in a country ™s schedule of concessions. Bindings are enforceable through the WTO. Their purpose is to provide greater commercial certainty through a ceiling on tariffs which cannot be breached without an offer of compensation to affected trading partners. These ceilings are often higher than the applied tariff rates.[1]
