English Legal System: Battered Child
In the context of the English law, A Dictionary of Law provides the following legal concept of Battered Child : A child subjected to physical violence or abuse by a parent, step- parent, or any other person with whom he is living. A battered child may be protected if the other parent (or person who is looking after him) applies for an injunction under the Family Law Act 1996, but only if the child is living, or might reasonably be expected to live, with the applicant. The Act applies to children under 18. When a child is suffering, or likely to suffer, significant harm, a local authority may apply for a *supervision order or *care order under the Children Act 1989.
