Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade in Global Commerce Policy

A WTO agreement aimed at ensuring that technical regulations and standards, including packaging, marking and labelling requirements, and procedures for assessment of conformity with technical regulations and standards do not create unnecessary obstacles to international trade. The Agreement encourages members to use appropriate international standards, but it does not require them to change levels of protection because of standardization.
